  • Whitford Elected to NAPA

    Congratulations to Professor Andrew Whitford for being elected as a National Academy of Public Administration Fellow.  He joins Professor Rainey and Professor O’Toole in this distinguished group.  NAPA Fellows are selected in recognition of a lifelong contribution to the public service and is one of the highest national honors for public servants, researchers and lecturers.  The National Academy of Public Administration is a non-partisan organization chartered by the US Congress in 1965 to improve the practice of public management by recognizing excellence in the public service and by conducting management studies and technical assistance for all levels of government.

  • 2014 MPA Socialization

    2014 Socialization kicked off on Monday, August 11th. It was the first of a three-day orientation to the MPA program as well as to UGA and the Athens communities. About 60 new and returning students attended socialization this year. Students attend two days of seminars and participate in a service project on the third day. Welcome incoming class of 2014!

  • 14th Seoul Case Study

    Students from the Department of Public Administration and Policy recently returned from their trip to Seoul as part as a special topics course. The week-long trip capped off a semester of learning about city management and urban governance. During the trip, students were given the opportunity to further understand  policy management and reforms undertaken by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. In addition to UGA, other participating schools included Rutgers University, Central Michigan University, and the University of Sheffield (UK).

Rimes Wins Dean’s Award

Jan 2015 Congratulations to PhD student Heather Rimes for winning the Graduate School Dean's Award in Social Sciences, an extremely competitive award given to highly qualified students with outstanding records at The University of Georgia. The award is given to students to help cover research costs while doing their dissertation or thesis. Rimes is currently working on her thesis entitled, "Bureaucratic Features of Scientific Research Collaboration: Organizational Characteristics of Research Collaborations among Individual Scientists” and is set to graduate with her PhD in Spring of 2015.

Ph.D. Student Presents at APPAM

Dec 2014 Ph.D. student, Courtney Yarbrough presented her paper, "State Policies to Curb Opioid Abuse Lead to Improved Pain Outcomes for Medicare Home Health Patients," coauthored with Dr. David Bradford at the APPAM Fall Research Conference which took place November 6-8, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM.
