PADP In 60 Seconds

  • Third time's the charm

    MPA Students, Phillip McAuley and Brianna Roberts, alongside MPH students Nicole La Tournous and Paula Buchanan brought home the top prize at the Public Policy Challenge National Invitational held by the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania and Governing Magazine. UGA is the first public school to bring home the top prize. The competition was held March 20-22 in Philadelphia, PA. The winning proposal, called (fem)me, is a plan to distribute feminine hygiene products to homeless and transitional women in Athens. The team was advised by Drs. David Bradford and Grace Bagwell-Adams.

  • 14th Seoul Case Study

    Students from the Department of Public Administration and Policy recently returned from their trip to Seoul as part as a special topics course. The week-long trip capped off a semester of learning about city management and urban governance. During the trip, students were given the opportunity to further understand  policy management and reforms undertaken by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. In addition to UGA, other participating schools included Rutgers University, Central Michigan University, and the University of Sheffield (UK).

May 2015 PADP PHD graduate Derrick Anderson, now assistant professor in the School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University, recently discussed the future of student lending and innovation (or the lack thereof) in for-profit higher education with Arizona's KJZZ.

MPA student wins GACMA scholarship

May 2015 Jamie Dove, a first-year MPA student specializing in local government, was recently awarded the GACMA scholarship. The Georgia County Manager's Association gives this scholarship to two MPA students enrolled in a University System of Georgia school who are seeking out careers as City Managers or Administrators. The organization's mission is "to support the role of County Manager/Administrator form of leadership through professional development, communication, and education of its members." For this scholarship, they seek out MPA students who have previous successes in both education as well as through participation in their communities outside of the classroom. The Department nominated Jamie for this award based on her experience working with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government and her career goal of becoming a city manager. Congratulations, Jamie!
